Laboratory of Petrology named after I.Kh. Khamrabaeva has been conducting fundamental and applied research since the establishment of the institute.

Heads of the laboratory

  • I.M. Isamukhamedov (1938-1957), corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. academician
  • I.Kh.Khamrabaev (1958-2002), Doctor of Geology and Mathematics
  • R.Akhundjanov (2003-2020), Doctor of Science (Physics and Mathematics)
  • Karimova F.B. (since 2021), (PhD), Senior Fellow

Main scientific directions of the laboratory

  • The study of igneous and metamorphic rocks and the determination of the conditions for their formation
  • Studies of the evolution of magmatism, composition, structure of the mantle and lithosphere of the Earth
  • Development of petrological models for the formation of endogenous deposits.

The main goal and objectives of research carried out by the department of petrology

Dissection of igneous, metamorphic and metasomatic formations of the territory of the republic on a geodynamic basis (identification of petrogenetic types). Ore content of magmatism in ore regions overlain by sedimentary complexes. Formational analysis and metallogeny of ultrabasic, basic and gabbro-monzonite-syenite rock associations
Development of criteria for the ore content of igneous, metamorphic and metasomatic formations. From numerous works, it is known that there are geochemical, mineralogical, petrochemical and petrographic signs of the productivity of igneous, metamorphic and metasomatic complexes for certain types of mineralization, but many of them have not yet been identified.
The study of ultramafic-mafic magmatism and associated mineralization, which are widespread within the suture zone. The problem is focused on elucidating the causes of the origin and modeling the evolution of ultramafic-mafic magmas, up to the formation of deposits of Fe, Ti, Mn, Cr, Cu, Au, Ag, platinoids, rare earth and other metals associated with them. Petrologists have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between various mechanisms of formation of basaltic magmas with a variety of their types and metallogenic specialization.
Studying the petrology of various dikes in the mining regions of Uzbekistan and determining their petro- and ore-generating role in the formation of ore minerals, as well as identifying the levels of magma formation centers, sources of endogenous mineralization and their relationship with deep geodynamic phenomena
The study of the Precambrian magmatism of the Western Tien Shan (age, ore content, genesis), determination of the role of pre-Paleozoic magmatism, metamorphism and metasomatism in the formation and formation of the continental crust and ore formation is the most important problem of petrology
Petrology of metamorphic formations and noble metal mineralization of the Central Kyzylkum, identification of regularities in the manifestation of metamorphism to clarify the genesis of noble metal mineralization and the nature of its distribution in the Central Kyzylkum region

Research under development in the laboratory at present (GRR)

Compilation of the Atlas of Petrotypes of Igneous Rocks (Stage II) of the Sultanuvais, Zirabulak-Ziaetdin, Karatyube, Kuldzhuktau Mountains, the southern slope and southwestern spurs of the Gissar Range (supervisor Ileshov K.M.)
Formation of reference collections of samples of rocks, minerals and ores of mining regions of Uzbekistan, including their electronic database (head Jumaniyazov D.I.)

Several business contracts are carried out in the laboratory

Projects included in the Roadmap with the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine:

  • Comprehensive in-depth predictive assessment of gold-silver, copper and rare-metal mineralization of the Almalyk-Angren mining region (supervisor Karimova F.B.);
  • Study of argillization zones controlling linear and tubular ore bodies of the South-Eastern continuation of the Uzun structure and the Tokberdy site in order to establish zones of gold mineralization – the Kuchbulak deposit (supervisor Musaev A.M.);

Projects concluded with the Severonurtainsky geological exploration expedition:

  • Mineralogical and petrographic characteristics of ore-bearing rocks and ores of the Western flank of the Pistali deposit (supervisor D. Dzhumaniyazov);
  • Carrying out research work on the study of the mineralogical and petrographic properties of gold mineralization, as well as the study of the mineral composition of ore-bearing rocks (magmatic, metamorphic and metasomatic), metasomatic changes in ores and ore-bearing rocks (supervisor Ishbaev Kh.D.);

Projects concluded with the Zarafshainskaya field geological and prospecting expedition:

  • Study of the petrographic and mineralogical and geochemical features of gold mineralization at the Yangi Umid and Western Yangi Umid sites in the Ziaetda ore field (supervisor D. Dzhumaniyazov).

Currently, the laboratory of petrology has 10 employees, including 1 professor, 2 doctors of science, 2 candidates of science, 2 doctoral students, 2 geologists. Research on the problem of magmatism and mineralization associated with it dates back to the founding of the institute and is still one of its main priorities.
