History of laboratory

The laboratory was established on the basis of the Department of Mathematical Geology, the founder of which was Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan F.A. Usmanov (1975-2008). From 2008 to 2016, the head of the laboratory was candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences S.T. Maripova (2008-2016). From 2016 to the present, the laboratory is headed by Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (DSc) L.R. Sadikova.

The main strategic direction of the laboratory

  • Development of the fundamental foundations of the geodynamic evolution of the structure of the Earth’s crust of the Middle and Southern Tien Shan, using terrain analysis. Development and improvement of the theoretical and methodological basis of “General and regional Geology” and “Statistical Metallogeny”;
  • Creation of computer-based geological and geophysical, remote database for individual territories;
  • Carrying out a quantitative assessment of the ore content of individual territories based on a complex of geological, geophysical and other data.

The actuality of the laboratory foundation

One of the important fundamental problems in geology is the study of the geodynamic evolution of the Earth’s crust of the Middle and Southern Tien Shan, which is part of the global Central Asian fold belt. The new paradigm of lithospheric plate tectonics replaced the theory of geosynclines and led to the emergence of a new direction of metallogeny of geodynamic environments. The study of geodynamic settings and the corresponding geological formations that are part of geodynamic complexes and their associations will allow a new revision of the geological structure and tectonic-metalogenic features. Each geodynamic complex has its own geological formation and manifestation of magmatism. Geodynamic regimes differ in the participation of different geospheric layers in the generation of magmas and hydrotherms, different mechanisms of the main geodynamic processes, and other properties. Therefore, they form various metallogenic belts and zones, deposits.

Scientific background of the laboratory

The laboratory has developed methods of statistical metallogeny and the Geoanalysis software package for predicting deposits; geodynamic stages of the formation of the Earth’s crust of the Middle Tien Shan have been determined, a model of Paleozoic magmatism has been created that determined the genesis of the formation of copper porphyry deposits of the Almalyk group. A theory of the formation of the Middle Tien Shan crust using terrane analysis is proposed. An improved statistical metallogenic analysis has been developed in the ArcGIS environment for the Nurata region;  A quantitative assessment of the prospects for gold and tungsten in the Nurata region has been developed. Databases have been created in the ARCGIS environment for gold and copper ore objects (deposits, ore occurrences, etc.) of Chatkal-Kurama, Zirabulak-Ziaetdin and Nurata regions.  Author’s certificates for registration of databases in the Agency for Intellectual Property of the Republic of Uzbekistan have been obtained.

Scientific research in the laboratory at the present time (Geologic exploration works)

Currently, the laboratory staff is conducting fundamental scientific research on the topic “Reconstruction of the history of geodynamic development of the territory of the Southwestern Tien Shan and the creation of three-dimensional models of the geological structure of the main ore fields and large deposits” as part of the exploration of replenishment of the mineral resource base of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The laboratory staff conducts research projects on several contractual works.

From 2016 to 2019, the laboratory staff published about 50 scientific papers. One dissertation of the Doctor of Sciences and two dissertations of the Doctor of Philosophy were defended. 9 masters have been trained. Out of 5 employees, 2 are doctors of sciences, 1 is a doctor of philosophy. Two employees participate in the educational processes of University of Geosciences and TSTU, the head of the laboratory is the deputy chairman of the specialized council for Protection and scientific seminars at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics named after H.M. Abdullayev (Tashkent) and a member of the scientific council at the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic named after M.M. Adyshev (Kyrgyzstan).
